United Patients Group and Sonoma State University Offer First Medical Marijuana Course in the Nation

Medical Cannabis: A Clinical Focus will be one of the first accredited courses from a major public university in the Nation

(Sonoma, CA – February 15, 2017) – Two leaders in California education – United Patients Group, a leading medical cannabis education provider, and Sonoma State University, the beloved university in heart of fertile Northern California – are teaming up to offer one of the first medical cannabis courses from a major public University in the country.

The upcoming Medical Cannabis: A Clinical Focus from United Patients Group marks a watershed moment in marijuana education and the Nation’s rapidly evolving acceptance of marijuana.

Already medically legal in twenty-eight States and Washington D.C. – and legalized recreationally in eight states as of last election, including California – cannabis has seen sweeping and unprecedented mainstream acceptance nationwide.

California, the largest state in the country to legalize medical cannabis, has a long history of leading the nation in medical cannabis research and advocacy. Medical Cannabis: A Clinical Focus from SSU and UPG, the first medical cannabis course to be offered at a public University – especially one as highly regarded as Sonoma State – is the next great step forward on a long road of leadership from California’s nation-leading medical cannabis community.

United Patients Group is well-known globally for helping patients and families navigate a rapidly evolving and complex cannabis marketplace. Founded to serve as advisors to both patients and physicians, UPG has recently blazed a trail as a leader in medical cannabis education, offering (CEU credentialed) courses at California Northstate Medical University, among others.

Their latest breakthrough accredited course will take place at Sonoma State University on March 11th, 2017. Live streaming of this event is also available.

Taught by respected nurse Eloise Theisen MSN, RN, AGPCNP-BC, the course is designed for Pharmacists, Physicians, Registered Nurses and Healthcare professionals.

Also featured in the seminar will be Dr. Donald Land, Chief Scientific Consultant to Steep Hill Labs, Inc., a science and technology firm that has become the industry leader in cannabis testing and analytics globally.  Dr. Land has been a national scientific expert in cannabis testing technologies for molds, mycotoxins and pesticides since 2010, when he founded Halent Laboratories, which merged with Steep Hill in 2013. Dr. Land is also a Professor of Chemistry at UC Davis.

Topics will cover the Endocannabinoid System, an Introduction to Cannabinoids and Terpenes, Drug to Drug Interactions, Understanding FECO (Full Extract Cannabis Oil), as well as Legal Implications–among other topics.

“United Patients Group was founded to give patients access to the best medical advice the medical cannabis community has to offer. We couldn’t imagine a more impactful way to further that mission than partnering with a respected University like Sonoma State,” said United Patients Group Co-Founder Corinne Malanca.

“Courses like Medical Cannabis: A Clinical Focus are the future of education in the medical use of cannabis. This is the first step in educating the next generation of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists about the immense knowledge base of benefits and treatment applications of this product as medicine,” said Sonoma State Dean of School of Extended and International Education, Robert Eyler, Ph.D. “We’re delighted to partner with a medical cannabis leader like United Patients Group to discuss the science of cannabis and help develop a workforce for the future at Sonoma State.”
